Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Juliet. I live in Vallejo, California and I've been a CNA for 25 years, and I've been a caregiver for 3 years. Why enjoy more of the caregiver is I do everything. I care for the lady. I love to take care of them, and I enjoy taking them out, bring them to the doctor, take them to the mall - you know if they want to - and I clean their house. I love to do cleaning house and cooking. Yeah, I take care of them nicely, like my own family.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I never forget is the one that I'm taking care of now. She's a very nice lady and I treat her like my mom because she don't have no family. She's a Jewish and I treat her like my mother because she don't have no family. She's alone. Her husband died. I used to take care of them both - a husband and wife - but when her husband died in my hand when I was taking care of her in the home. The hospital send him home because he was sick but then he passed away. I was there with him. I was talking to him. And I love them because, like what I said, the son died, she doesn't have no family, and the husband died. So I promise her that I will take care of her forever.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
What are your strengths as a caregiver?
One of the best advice that I can give to the caregiver is you have to understand the patient and you have to be mellow to them when you talk.
What I think that I good caregiver, is I take care of them like my own family. I treat them like my own family and I know that I can understand them, what they have problem, and that I can communicate better to them. Yeah, that's why.
