Hi, my name is Julissa. I live in Brockton, MA and I have been a caregiver for one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am working as a mental health specialist right now. I love working with people who need the extra help, and communicating with them, and just staying by their side the whole time because they do need help. And when you communicate with them, you learn so much. And you learn about them. And it's just a great experience. And, I don't know. I just love it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to always live life to the fullest and always see the positive in everything you do. Never hold on to grudges and just live to be happy because that's what we're here for. We want to be happy while we're happy, while our time is here. And if we're not doing that, then it's just a waste of time. So I would always just tell them to keep a positive attitude, positive energy around you. Always see the light in everything. And live happy because living happily is everyone's goal in life.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Angie. I met her at the High Point Treatment Center where I work now. She was just having a very bad breakdown. She got a bad phone call. And to lift her spirit, what I always try to do with all of my patients, I just let them know that you always have to see the positive in every situation. Although there may not be one, you would just get to look at it as if the time is going to pass and then you won't have to worry about it again.
