Hi, my name is June and I live in Long Beach,CA. I have approximately eight plus years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my parents. Approximately eight years ago, my father fell ill and he was unable to take care of himself and because my mom was also not doing so well, she needed assistance in caring not only for her but for my dad as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to have a lot of patience and a lot of love and respect. Just to have time because a lot of our elderly or those who need care just need someone to be there by their side to comfort them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my mom. She sacrificed so much love and patience for us, for me, my brothers and sisters and never once asked for anything in return. All she wanted and she always used to instill this in us, that family is forever and that as they get old, it was our responsbility, the children, to take care of them. So, that always stuck with me in my heart and in my mind. I am thankful and grateful that I had that opportunity to take care of them. It wasn't easy. As I've said before, you have to have a lot of patience and just being there for them. It was hard because when my dad passed away, she needed to be around people, companions, so me and my sister were always there by her side to do whatever was needed to make her as comfortable as possible.
