Hi! I'm Jurnee. I've been a caregiver for two years and I live in Dallas, TX.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother had a heart attack about two and a half years ago. And that's actually when her Alzheimers started. And I wanted to take care of her and I actually did. And, I also want to go to school to become an RN because my mother was LPN. So that's kind of like where my own love for helping others actually came from.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver, someone who wants to soon become a caregiver would be, to always stay positive and learn not to take things to heart. I've dealt with patients who had dementia or Alzheimer's like my grandmother does. And they would say mean things. And you have to learn that's not them talking. And you have to learn not to take things to heart.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget would be a client I had back when I was living in Louisiana. His son was Joseph. He had a mental disorder, even with that and with everything he had going on, he was always just a happy person. And even when I was having bad days, he would just put a smile on my face.
