Hi, my name is Kanisha Gunn. I currently live in Hawthorne, CA. I've been a caregiver for about two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because while I was growing up, I seen my big sister doing a lot of caregiving so she inspired to get into the caregiving field, the medical field, to help others out.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver will be to not take anything too personal because our clients are ill and they are kind of sick. Sometimes they may come up kind of aggressive or be a little rude or mean. But us as caregivers, we can't take it personal because we know that they have an illness and it's our job to be there for them and care for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is Felisha. When I was working with her, she was one of the clients that I worked with the longest. I actually worked with her during the PM shift. Every night I would come, she would make sure that she had my seat ready for me with a little blanket just in case I got cold at night. She always made me feel welcome. She made sure that I had food. She made sure I had snacks and she didn't have to do that. That wasn't her job, so I feel that that was one of the most memorable moments with one of my clients
