Hi, my name is Kara. I live in Sacramento, CA and I have been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother was a certified nursing assistant all throughout my childhood. And she used to take my sister and myself to work sometimes. And we used to go around visiting the patients. And that's what really inspired me to love the elderly. I love helping others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be that you need to be dependable, honest, trustworthy, and really compassionate in what you're doing as a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Shirley. I worked with Shirley for almost five years, and we became very close. I worked for her 24-hour shifts at the beginning. And we became very close with spending a lot of time doing different things like shopping, cooking, and even entertaining. She had a lot of guests, and we would set up her guests, company. And we just had a lot of fun times together, laughing, crying, and just really special moments. And when I think of her, I think of her as a family. And I hold her very dear to my heart and always will.
