Hi, my name is Karen. I live in Winter Springs FL, and as a caregiver, I have less than 1 year experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because as a Guardian ad Litem, which is a volunteer position in Seminole County, Florida,
I had the opportunity to work with families that have children in crisis, that grandparents are taking the children and raising them,
and need service and assistance. And that has given me the desire to help.
And I do a lot of helping and working in my church, helping the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to show kindness to your clients, be very patient with them. Be kind and friendly.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget was named Joseph, and he was in the early on staged for dementia.
And he would get depressed, and we would just sit and talk and we'd go out and go for walks sometimes,
just whatever he wanted to do that was safe, I would try to encourage that. And I would also talk to him about good, positive things.
