Hi my name is Karla. I currently live in the San Fernando,CA and I have approximately two years of experience.

How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping others at home, whether it's with grocery shopping or anything mentally. I enjoy talking to other people and helping them have comfort in their own home. I love to see people be treated as if they were my own loved one. It's something that I highly enjoy doing.

What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to pay attention to their client. Ensure that whatever medication you're giving to them is current and medication that they're supposed to be taking. Also, to try and engage in conversation a lot with your client. A lot of clients that I've seen love to talk whether it's about their family history, the news, things like that and just try to keep everything calm and cool. The best way to also get them to trust and to know that you're their person is by not automatically trying to jump into their business or anything like that. To make sure they're super comfortable and ask them exactly what they need for you to do or if there's anything else that you could help them with. Things like that.

Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll always remember, his name was Jack. I would visit him in the mornings, make his breakfast, things like that. He would talk to me about his wife who passed away not too long ago due to cancer. Every time he spoke about her, his eyes light up and he was always very happy but he was also sad at the same time. I'll never forget Jack because my father passed away two years ago and my mom is also fighting cancer herself. We related on a lot of things together and were both like each other's best friend. I'll never forget Jack.
