Hi, my name's Kassia I live in Visalia, CA and I've been a caregiver for three years going on four.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I wanted to provide quality care for those who didn't have it readily available to them within their home or family and I wanted to bring something more to their lives when they felt like they didn't have that. That's just why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to really care about the work you are doing and the care you are providing. You run into very different backgrounds, people who come from different places and have been through different things. If you go in with an open heart and an open mind, then it's always rewarding not only for you but the person that you are caring for as well, just genuinely care about the work that you are doing and providing the care you are giving.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Grace. Her and I had such a great time together every time I was there for my work hours or whatever but it was always talking, coffee, tea, puzzles and food. I always shared a little bit of my personal life just to make them feel like it's not a one-sided thing because I am coming into their home. She really enjoyed sharing about my boyfriend, my grandparents and the trips that I took. It was always just very heart warming to be there and know that when I was there, I get a hug goodbye. She couldn't wait until I would come in and I couldn't wait until I was going back because it was always very enjoyable to be there and just knowing that you're there when the family can't always be there or their loved ones can't always be there. It warms your heart knowing that you can be that person that kind of brightens their day or gives them something to look forward . That is something that I will never forget
