Hi my name is Kassidy. I live in Sacramento, CA and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom is an RN and I just liked her coming home and listening to her talk about all the happy people and how awesome it is to take care of elderly and how good it can make you feel to take of elderly people and the difference you're making in their lives and the bonds that you create with them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be always come to work in a positive and happy attitude because your day is going to reflect with your client on your attitude and how you come into their home and how you do need to keep your personal life personal and not bring it into your caregiver's home. I mean, sure. You could share personal experiences and stuff like that. Just don't bring bad aspects of your personal life into it and kind of try and relate to your client and maybe try and tell personal stories that might reflect and make the client happy. Listen to their stories and try and build a bond with that client and build a relationship because the better your relationship the better you are and the happier you're going to be at work and the happier your client is going to be. It's always about the client's happiness and how comfortable they are with you in their home and how comfortable they are with your care and you as a person in general.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, I met in a facility. She was always very happy and very down to earth. Always willing to put a smile on your face if you weren't feeling good or you weren't happy that day. She was always in a positive manner. Always telling about her childhood and her life stories and always wanted to listen to what you had to say and experiences you've had and how your life's going and your interests. She just cared genuinely and that is genuine experience for me. That's always been a bond that I like creating and having with my clients, is being able to relate and share experiences and listen to their own stories and listen to their stories.
