Hi, my name is Katherine. I live in Hemet, CA. I have five years of caregiving experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love helping people and being able to be the go to person that can help them achieve what they need to for the day, whether it be the elderly or a child, or even just someone that needs extra help.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to just be patient with each person because everybody is different and needs different types of help. So, if you have an elderly that has dementia, they're not going to know who you are from day to day, or they might know who you are one minute and not the other. So just be patient and learn the person. Don't get frustrated or let it get to you or affect you that they don't know who you are or that they don't remember you. Or if it's a different problem, like if they're in pain or something, you just have to be patient and work with them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Shelley. She became like a second mom to me. We built a bond that was so strong. She was elderly and on dialysis. She became like a grandmother to my child. I was with her every day and even at the end when she started getting delirious and not knowing things and talking gibberish, which was really hard for me, I just stayed there and was with her to the end when she passed away in February. So I will never forget Shelley.
