Hi, my name is Kendra. I live in Phoenix, NY. I've been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I cared for my grandfather with Parkinson's disease and it inspired me to want to care for other people's loved ones and treat them just the same as my own, and I've enjoyed always caring for somebody and treating people the way they need to be treated.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always care for somebody as like they were your own family. Always treat people with respect and the way that you would like to be treated.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Ray. I started taking care of him 3 years ago. Before he passed he had Parkinson's disease and cancer. In the end, he ended up passing from aspiration pneumonia caused from the Parkinson's disease. He was always funny. Such a great guy. Always told such funny stories, and I will never, ever forget him. It was a very tough service for him, but I still speak with his family. And I guess something I will never forget is him coming out in a wheelchair acting like he was in the end stages of Parkinson's, not being able to walk, nothing. And the day a few months later when we took him every day exercising he started walking again with a walker.
