Hi, my name's Kimberly. I live in Bay Point, and I've been a caregiver for a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because where I work I used to be a housekeeper, and I've seen how other workers love doing their job, and I wanted to do that to help the residents where I used to work at because they're so kind and caring, and I love how I would watch, and they tell me their stories. They were wonderful people, and that's why I became a caregiver, and I love helping people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caretaker would be to have patience, to be kind, caring, and treat our residents like if they were your grandparent or anyone you love.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Leah. Every day I would walk into work and she would be surprised to have me because I would love to take care of her, and she loved me as a caretaker. And I remember how I would walk into her room, and I would always see hydrangeas because those were her favorite flowers. I would water her flowers while she would tell me, "Oh, thank you so much. Frank needed water. He was so dehydrated." Also, her stories, how she would franchise with McDonald's and how she would miss me when I would be gone for two days or three, and how we would tell funny stories to each other, and how we would watch classic movies like Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. We would sing to that song from Men Prefer Blondes. Oh, how I miss her.
