hi, my name is Kimberly. I live in Rockdale, and I have six years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I knew it was naturally something that I wanted to do, but I also have siblings that have mental disabilities. So, I always knew that I wanted to help others with the same disability or disadvantages that society was saying that they have. And I always want to make a difference in a way and such of helping others with physical or mental disabilities.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, that you always have to have patience and passion. Without those two, you'll never make it as a caregiver. You should always be passionate about what you want to do in life and always have patience, because without patience you can't care for others and do it properly and well.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, his name is Roger. He couldn't speak well, but he could always signal to me what he needed or how much he loved me when I would come into work. I remember always helping him and caring for him in a way that I couldn't care for others. I knew that I fell in love with him because he just had something in his eye and I knew that he wanted to care and love, and just someone to be there for him. So I provided that for him every day I came into work. Just to give him that piece of comfort when I would come into work and allow him to know that there was at least one person in this world that cared for him.
