My name is Kimberly. I'm from Stockton, and I have around three years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caretaker because I like taking care of people. Special people have taken care of me so I want to return the favor, I like to bring joy and happiness into people's lives, and I just like people. And so if I can make the situation better anyway that I can, then I'm willing. And I'm there to help.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to show up on time, come in with a smile on your face, talk and greet the person, be friendly, and show a lot of love and compassion. Let them feel that you're there to keep them safe. Build a bond to let them know that they could trust you, and everything will be fine after that.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client was Mr. Sergeant. Mr. Sergeant was a nice man, and Mr. Sergeant had cancer, and so I was there to meet his needs alongside his family. And we were with him 'till the end, and in that time we had a bond. We talked about a whole lot of stuff. We shared family recipes, and it was just happiness - the outcome of it all. And because he was so nice and gentle, he was the person that was sick but yet he was worrying about our needs. So, Mr. Sergeant would be my favorite person that I can remember that was real nice to me.
