Tell us about yourself and how you got into caregiving:
Hi, my name is Kiponi. I live in San Francisco and I have been a caregiver for 3 years.
I became a professional caregiver because of my passion for caring for seniors and for those that needed help. I started with my own grandparents.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Of all of the people that I have worked for, Mrs. Bernstein comes to mind. I worked for her for a year and a half. She was battling MS and lime disease - at first it was tough. But we built a connection and trust so I became a part of her family.
What did you admire most about her?
What I admired most about Mrs. Bernstein was her strength and her love for her family.
Are there any caregiving tips you can share?
One piece of advise for a new caregiver is to be ready and be comfortable for any situation. We cannot just show up to work and expect to have a good day. Be ready for the bad days, because there will always be those good days that lift you up.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
My proudest moment is when I leave the house knowing that I did everything to the best of my ability to help my client.
