Hi, I'm Korina. I have a caregiving experience for two years. I live in Manteca, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because 10 years ago, I live in Chicago, Illinois and that's my first hometown, I was in high school back then and my part-time job is caregiving because my mom's work is a caregiver and I used to work at her place as a part-time reliever.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice toward a caregiver is to have patience, a lot of patience and passion of what you're doing. Be sure that you really like what you're doing so that you can take care of a lot of people and you can give efficient care and services, good services to them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget was when I was still in Chicago. There was this one patient that I've taken care of. She's so grumpy and she lives alone in a nursing home with no more family and I call her Gertrude. At first, she doesn't like me because since I'm new, It really tested my patience at that time because she always giving me a hard time. But since I understand what she's going through, I made her feel like I'm one of the family. I took care of her, I make her laugh, I make sure that all her needs and I'm trying to observe what she doesn't and does like and that's one of the unforgettable moments because it truly tested my patience in that time because she's really, really grumpy and I realize that all you had to do is, it will take time to get a good result in taking care of people.
