Hi. My name is La Kenya. I live in Santa Rosa, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because-- a young girl from going with my mom to work at General Hospital, USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. I wanted to help people like she did, and now I do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to be observant and patient and always smiling and ready to go.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My client that I will never forget is a 103-year-old man named Walter. I began working with him when he was 101. He was so full of life and so full of wisdom and his beautiful stories of his 103 years. And I just recently lost him. And the patience I had to learn and the new way I had to deal with him. And he made me laugh, and he made me think, and he made me question and seek out more knowledge about the past.
