Hi. My name is LaTonya. I live in Vacaville, CA and I have ten years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother was an RN, and watching her do work encouraged me to want to follow and do the same. I went to school and got my CNA. I went to school for Medical Assisting. And I also went to school for my LVN, I just didn't take the boards. So I've been doing this for a while.
What advice would you give a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to take time to learn your patient's likes and dislikes. Therefore, it will make your job easier for you and for them, and you guys can communicate better.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I will never forget was one that I had back in 2000, and she taught me how to knit. I knew how to crochet, but I didn't know how to knit. So it was a very, very good experience for both of us, because she went back and learned how to do stuff over, and I learned a new skill.
