Hi, my name is Lanique. I live in Baltimore, MD and I've been a caregiver for a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've always been passionate to be a caregiver. I've always been passionate to work in the medical field and I just love helping the elderly, and I was given an example when my grandfather was sick years ago. I just couldn't see him sick, and I would just see him so down.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, have a positive attitude, show companionship, show that you care, do the best that you can with grumpy mean elderly people, but don't let that interfere you as your job and as a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, I kind of forgot his name but he was so nice, so sweet, and I uplift him so much that his wife was like, "Wow, you're one of his best caregivers." And they welcomed me back, and I just showed love and showed him that not only I'm your caregiver but I love you as you're one of my loved ones. And show them that I care, talk with them, play games, activities.
