Hi, my name is Lashea. I live in San Bernardino, CA and I have been a caregiver for eight years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because it's actually something that I like doing. I like to help others. Especially with it being as simple as just helping them do their hair, changing and showering. Just the every day daily activity that people take granted for. I like to be there to help them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, you got to be compassionate. You have to love what you do. Don't do it if this is not something that you want to do. You have to be nice and respectful to these people. These people are just like you. They're not babies. Don't treat them like babies. And just help them and be there for them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is this one person who was always happy every day. Always made me smile. Always jolly about life. Not able to even do some things by himself but still happy. Didn't let anything put him down. Just always happy and always had a smile on his face. It was great to know that I helped him with that. So for him to be happy with what I was doing, it feels great.
