My name is Lashyera, I live in Bellflower, and I've been a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver to take care of my grandmother after she was diagnosed with leukemia. After she passed away, I was still motivated to show empathy and compassion to other people, so I continued to do it.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to embrace every situation. Approach it with an open heart and mind, compassion and empathy because no two people are the same. But everyone deserves the same type of care and respect, and they deserve someone to be sensitive to their situation.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Felicia. She was pretty grouchy and mean to everyone else but for some reason, she was different with me. Always smiling and upbeat and real nice and kind despite everything she was going through. And although she had problems remembering people and different things and times of the year, she seemed to always remember me and know my face and want to do little girly things, get her nails painted, and she wanted me to play in her hair and stuff like that
