Hi, my name is LaTasha. I live in Dallas, TX. I have been a caregiver for 19 going on 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because growing up, my mom was a CNA and she went on to be an LVN, which she is still to this day. And I followed in her footsteps and fell in love with caring for people that's not able to do the things for themselves that they may have been able to in the past.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to have patience and understanding of the person that they're caring for. A lot of people that's going through things and they're not able to do the same things that they are normally used to doing for themselves, and have to depend on someone else to do those things for them, is hard for people. And so us, as caregivers have to have a lot of understanding and a lot of patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Miss Ezery. I cared for her for over a year. I drove from Dallas to Ennis, Texas, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We spent a lot of time together, and still to this day I call her and check on her. Even though her family put her in assisted living I still keep in contact with her. I will never forget Miss Ezery.
