Hello! My name is LaTema and I'm from Fort Worth, TX, and I've been caregiving over five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a grandmother that's elderly, and she really does appreciate my help, so I really got into the business of trying to help other people that need my help, that would appreciate my help, so that's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is, try being more patient because the elderly or any other person that has health problems or any disability problems might need your help, and you might want to be a little bit more patient and caring to their needs. So have a strong-- be strong in that department because you never know what is going on with that person. They might need your help. My advice is be a little patient and be a little caring, and they'll appreciate it.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I'll never forget is named Betty. She has dementia. She's funny, she talks a lot, and she laughs a lot, and she will say anything that comes to her mind. I mean, anything. And so she really gets me if she says what's on her mind at that point of time because it could be anything. But right now, I will never forget Betty.
