Hi, my name is Latisha and I live in North Hills, CA and I've been in the medical field for six years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because that's what I started off as. In 2008, I became a caregiver and I took care of both of my dads by myself so that inspired me. I am a medical assistant. I am a CNA and I am finishing my bachelor's program in healthcare management. I currently work as a medical assistant and I do CNA work on the side.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient and to always make sure you let your patient, resident, client know that you care, that you are understanding and understand that especially in the last days of living, that you understand how important it is for them to feel comfortable, safe and know that you acknowledge them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my client Evie from Rockford, Illinois outside of Chicago and she was amazing. I had her for two years, I miss and I appreciated just doing overnights with her and sometimes I did live-in shifts. It was amazing just to be there for her during her last days when her family couldn't be.
