How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love the elderly, I love what I do, I am very passionate about what I do. And I would want somebody to take care of me when I get older.
Who is your most memorable client?
The client I'll never forget was Miss Jones. When I first met her it was very difficult, but as time went on she became a really, really good friend and confident. She was a very sweet person. She was a diabetic so we did dialysis, we did grocery shopping, we did doctors appointments, I cleaned up, I wash closed, I cooked, and reminded her of her medication. I was her right hand man as she used to say.
Can you give some tips to a new caregiver?
My piece of advice for a new caregiver would be: don't do it for the money -- do it because you love it. When I come to work everyday, it's not as a job or being burdened by a job -- this is something that I love to do. It's just like going shopping or going to the mall If you're heart's not in it, then don't do it at all.
What makes you proud to be a caregiver?
What makes me proud as a caregiver is being appreciated, seeing a smile on the person's face that you're caring for, and knowing they feel like they are loved because of what you're doing for them.
