Hi, my name is LaToya. I live in Dallas, TX and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I thrive for the need to help others. I love to be of service and be there for those whose family can't be available at the time. I've done it over 10 years, and I started doing it by taking care of family members and loved ones, and I just loved it from then on. It's a passion of mine.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to work with love, compassion, and patience. Treat your clients as if they're your grandparents or a loved one. Be considerate and very attentive.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget has to be Lois. She was a 98-year-old woman. Very alert and attentive. And she rolled in a wheelchair, moving her legs briskly for hours and hours on end every day. She had the brightest smile, always happy, and always knew what to say and when to say it.
