Hi, my name is Latoya. I live in Tallahassee, FL and I have six plus years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother got extremely ill while I was working in a supermarket so I got to take a leave of absence from my job to care for her and I did it all the way up until her passing in 2015. I just loved being there and caring for her and I just like doing it for other people as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be honest, to be a loving and compassionate person, no matter what their ethnic is, how old or young they are, with disabilities or not, bit to have a love for all people. Be yourself and to treat that person like your loved one, your mom or grandmother or your dad or your grandfather.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. Green. He was very elderly, really old, but he was just awesome. He had a great singing voice, had a love for outdoors and performing. He would talk to me about the old days and how they used to do things on the farm and how they used to have no electricity. All the things they do back in the old days.
