Hi, my name is Lilibeth. I live in San Jose, CA and I've been a caregiver for at least 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother had pancreatic cancer and I had to care for her. I had to give her meals through tube feeding. I had to sponge bath her and help her out with her activities of daily living.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be very patient with elderly people and then to be very gentle and caring towards them, and have compassion towards them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget. His name was John and he was my patient during internship when I had my internship or CNA. And I would help him with his activities of daily living. He was always polite. He would always say, "Thank you." And he was often unresponsive to what I asked him, but the thing that touched me was the politeness of this person even though of his situation.
