Hi, my name is Lille. I live in Daytona Beach, FL and I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I have a passion for helping others and helping others would be the passion of being able to help the elderly with the activities of their daily living, or whatever the need may be as far as helping them, supporting them, to make them feel welcome as if they were my own family members. I've lost loved ones that I, of course, I can't get back, so it's kind of like a tribute to them and memory for me to be able to treat the elderly as if they were them as if they were my own.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to observe as much as possible, to do exactly what's needed, to be able to provide the services that are needed and more to the utmost ability, to give comfort and really understand the situation of the client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget is Mary, who is now my angel. I love Mary. We had a very close bond. Mary and I were together maybe a year and a half or two until she passed away and I was there when she took her last breath. Mary and I had the most cherishable moments. Mary knew what time I came in and Mary knew what time I left. Well, I wouldn't say anybody, but amongst the caregivers that she had, I believe I was that very special one. There were some things the others couldn't get her to do that I was able to do. There was just something about my Mary. And she'll always be my Mary.
