Hi! My name is Lillian. I live in the city of Los Angeles, CA, and I've been a caregiver for twelve years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had to take care of my sick grandmother, and through working with her, I got the love and passion for this kind of work. And then she passed away at the age of 85. Also, I've been a caregiver for different people. That's how I got into this field.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be so patient with your clients, to be loving, to be compassionate, to listen and do what they ask you to do or act accordingly. All they need is love. Of course, there are some challenges, but you will be able to deal with them if you have patience. Most of all, have patience, have love and be compassionate. Always remember that.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The clients I will never forget are Peggy and Jerry. I worked with Peggy for three years. Actually four years, up to 2009 until she passed away, and then I got Jerry who I worked with until last year, 2014. I'll never forget them because they loved me as much as I loved them, and they treated me as a family. They were really so open to me, and they made me love my job more and more. I miss them. They passed away and they are in heaven now.
