Hi, my name is Lille. I live in Covina, CA and I've been a caregiver for nine years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was already doing it in 1970, working in an elderly home. Then I had to end up taking care of my mother for five years, also working with her in hospice. So I did that for five years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, is to have compassion, especially since this kind of job needs your heart. Other than that, we're not just a simple daycare, and also you have to have a lot of love and really want to do this kind of job. I've been doing this since 1970, and it's all I've ever done. That's basically what I do, to take care of somebody and to always have that kind of compassion. As you do it, as you become a caregiver, you'll always have that compassion.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget is someone that I had to take care of when she had a stroke. I kind of took care of her, sit with her and talk with her, even with times that it wasn't my job. But I really fell in love with this lady and she was so nice.
