Hi. My name is Lily. I currently live in Clayton, CA and I have 1 year experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am a good hearted person. I love to be with seniors or elderly people. I grew up around my extended family, and I've seen these old people around my family. Most of my siblings help them, and that's our culture that we have to help first our elderly. That's how I became interested in becoming a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be is to have a good heart, love and respect, and someone who is hard-working and honest. That's the main thing that I'm looking into - someone who is very honest and patient with the clients.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget was a hospice client that I tend for like three months. I was a caregiver in her own house, and she suffered from stroke. The things that I admire to her was-- even though she can't talk as much, she still shows how she like the way I treated her. The most unforgettable moment is when she died on my arms. That's the first time I saw someone passed away. While growing up, I haven't seen someone dying in my arms or around my family. Usually, my relative has passed away somewhere else or even in the hospital. But this hospice person, she died on my arms, and I will never forget that day.
