Hi, my name is Linda and I live in Rohnert Park, CA, and I have 5 years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I used to work with dogs and I was a caregiver for dogs at two different kennels and I loved being able to care for them and then my mom was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to passed away at home so I quit my job and moved in with her and was her primary caregiver and I enjoyed it very much. After she passed away my family saw how good I treated her, my mother, so my ex-husbands family came to me and asked me if I would take care of his father who was also dying of cancer. So I moved in with him and took care of him until he passed away. I enjoy being with people. I enjoy giving care to others. It makes me feel happy and fulfilled.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be: be patient, supportive, respectful and enjoy yourself and always have a smile on your face.
