Hi, my name is Linda. I live in the city of Richmond, and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy taking care of people. I also have had several people in my family whom became ill and needed care, and I also went to school for that.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be, make sure that you're doing this because you like taking care of people, and not solely for the benefit of the money.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The person that I'm speaking about her name was Alice. I met her in a convalescent environment, and I was the person who was to take care of her on this particular day, and she asked me to do a certain procedure. The procedure was to clean out her mouth because it was coated. So I proceeded to do the procedure, and after I did the procedure I left, and when I returned the next day, the client had passed away. So for me, this was good, but it was a sad situation, and it's something that I won't ever forget.
