Hi, my name is Lisa, I live in Fresno, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of caring for my grandmother and my son's aunt. This is something that I really enjoy doing. I love taking care of people, and I love also making sure that everyone is okay.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to make sure that they get to know who the patient is and make sure that they can understand what the patient needs rather than going in like a robot. Everybody is different, so therefore everybody's needs are going to be different.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable client was a lady named Alicia. Alicia was the type of client, she was verbally abusive, but then they asked me, "How come she never yells at you?" And I was like, "I got to know her and her wants and needs. I don't give her a reason to yell at me." She did when I first started working with her because I didn't know, but I listened to her and tried my best to get to know her, and I got to know her pretty well.
