Hi, my name is Lisa. I've been a caregiver for 10 years and I live in Harbor City, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had a mother who had cancer, who was dying and I took good care of her. It inspired me to help others that might not be as fortunate where family can help take care of them but others could and love them just the same.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a caregiver would be to be patient, to love, to listen carefully to when people are telling you something, to always take into consideration that they have good and bad days, that we're there to take care of them, not to give our personal info to them but to treat them with love, respect, dignity and integrity.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My client, Helen, was one of my favorite clients. She was dying of cancer and was really sick. What I love the most about her, she was patient and she always said thank you after I did anything for her. She let me know we had a connection. Even though she was in a lot of pain, she always smiled and she was very heartwarming to me because she was just grateful for everything because she didn't have her own family. She was the last one, so anything you did for her made her happy.
