Hi, my name is Lisia. I live in Henderson, TX and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I started working as a certified nurses' aide at a nursing home, and there was one of the clients' daughters there, and we were talking, and she wanted private care for her mother, and we started talking, and she gave me her phone number, and I got hired to be her mother's private caregiver, and I've been doing ever since for different people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to have more patience because all they need is your time, and they just want someone to talk to and make them feel happy and loved. And you'd be surprised how just doing little things for them, just taking the time to talk with them, it makes that patient feel a whole lot better and it makes them do better.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a lady. She was blind and deaf, and every time, I entered the room, she knew who I was because she had learned my scent. And it just amazed me every time I entered the room. She knew it was me because she would call my name. I will never forget her. She was a sweet lady.
