Hi, my name is Lois. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for over 15 years or more.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love caring for people. My mom worked at USC Medical Center for 35 years before she passed away. I cared for her, my father and all my family members. I just love caring for people, it's what God made me to do and my mom.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be patience. Always have patience and listen. Listen to whoever you're caring for because they depend on you.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I never will forget is Ms. Jackie. When I met Ms. Jackie, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She was very mean. She couldn't understand how her life had changed. She used to work at El Camino College and I just talked to her and talked to her until she came around and we just fell in love with each other. She was my best friend, she was like my mom and she could count on me. I was her hospice nurse. I miss Ms. Jackie.
