Hi, my name is Lovely. I live in El Segundo, CA. I have been a nurse for seven years, and I was a health educator in the Philippines. I'm new here in the US.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because it has been my desire to take care of other people since I was a child. So, I took up nursing course in the Philippines. I took care of a lot of people for free in our city in the Philippines and now that I am here in California, I wanted to care for other people too.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to love and take care of your patient as your very own relative and you need to always watch them and always think about their well being. It's best if you give a lot of your attention and love your patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my neighbor. For me, he wasn't just a client, he was a friend of mine. I didn't let him pay me, I took care of him for free because it was my desire to help him and his family because they came from a very poor family and they just had a newborn baby at the time. So every day before I go to work, I would stop by at their place and feed this man. Then help with his exercise, and help bathe his baby as well. So in the span of two weeks, with regular check-up on him, I began to see his hands and feet moving slowly. When I looked at his face, he was smiling at me. No amount of money can buy that smile. And I was really happy to see that he was able to recover from that condition.
