Hi. My name is Malia, I live in Redwood City, CA. I have been a caregiver for 15 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when I was still a teenager. I lived with my mom's parents so I kind of helped in there. Then 15 years ago, my late mother-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, so I ended up taking care of her for eight years before she passed away.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for caregivers is to be a caring person and show them that you're there to help their loved one. Try to be your best.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My best memory of my former client is Linda. Linda was very petite, but her heart was bigger than her size. She was very kind, sophisticated, well-educated, and beautiful. The color of her house, it just like herself. And She made me feel like I was a part of her family, that she needed me for a long time. So for all the love she gave me, I gave back twice the amount. Their family was wonderful. She's thoughtful, kind, witty, and lovely. Everything in life, I learned from her. It made me a better person, to be able to give more love and care for others.
