Hi, my name is Mandy. I live in San Antonio, TX and my experience is 12 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a healthcare provider due to taking care of an elderly who passed away in 2004. I myself carried on with bearing a child who was autistic. So from then on, I continued with the passion of helping with disabled children and elderly and that's how I gained the experience of 12 years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always look for signs, abuse, neglect. Have mutual understanding with family, if there's any new medication or any new diagnosis or eating habits. And always be dressed professionally. And to be accurate and prompt as well as honest to the client, so she knows, or he knows, that the attention is on them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Maria. She and her family had so much bond. It showed me as a mother how to be with my own children. It's a mix emotion.
