Hi, my name is Manel. I live in Marina del Rey, CA. I have 14 years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was working at the Los Angeles International Airport, and I was laid off. And then, one of my friends, who is a nursing assistant, introduced me to this caregiving job. So that's how I started my journey as a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be please be punctual to work. Be kind and patient with them. Always listen to them or their needs. Try to help them as much as you can. You are treating these patients like your own family so be very patient with them, even though you get very impatient. It is a very hard job. Be patient because sometimes they are very sick and unable to help themselves. That's why they need your help. So treat them as your own family member. Always be kind and patient with them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, I have had various kind of patients, older people. And I treated them as my own mother, father. There was one special person I will never forget. He was a famous film producer, and his father, I took care of him about more than five years. He was very good looking, and very, very kind gentleman.
