Hi, my name is Maria and I live in the City of Covina, CA. And I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a loved one. My dad got sick and he had cancer for years and I personally took care of him. And that inspired me to take care of the elderly, as well as the other people to give comfort, and care, and love.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to show respect to the client, listen to their stories, be yourself and be sincere. And understand them in all aspect that you could provide. And most especially, to keep them company and make them feel that they're being loved.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Francis. I've been with him for almost five years. And aside from the fact that I got to know him better, he's such a character. He's person who has a big heart, very kind-hearted. And he's very, very thoughtful. And in spite of his illness, he's such a happy guy, always have happy a thought. So I'll never ever forget him.
