Hi, my name is Maria. I live in Rio Vista, CA. I have been a caregiver for a little bit over 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I really enjoy being able to help people with my ability to help them do things that they are not able to do. If it's companionship, running errands for them, preparing meals, light housekeeping, all those things I enjoy doing for other people. It's very much my passion.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be having lots of patients, being very gentle, caring about your clients' health and feeling as if they're having a bad day. If they're not getting their medications on time, we are there to provide our services to them. That way, they are getting the things that they need that they might not be able to get on a daily basis on their own time.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget, he goes by the name of Wally. He is a master chief of the navy. A very, very caring, giving, just all around good guy. He loves his old, classic movies. He loves to eat his cheese puffs and drink his Mountain Dew, loves chocolate and loves to go sailing. Has tons of friends at 92. Just a lot of great people around him. Just an awesome man and he would bend over backwards for just about anybody.
