Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Maria Teresita Limlingan and I live here in San Francisco. I’ve been a caregiver for 11 years. I became a caregiver because it’s my passion and I love doing it, especially for the older ones because someday I will be growing old too.
Who is the first client that comes to your mind?
A client I will never forget - when I first started caring for her she was 90 years old. I think she already had dementia because she was very forgetful. I helped care for her, bathing and showering, using the bathroom. I took care of her until she died in 2007.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
My proudest moment as a caregiver: I’m thanking god that for the past 12 years working in a facility, I did not do any wrong doing. I made it a point until my last day serving at the facility that everything went well.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
One piece of advice to another caregiver would be to be true to yourself, be honest, try to take care of them properly.
