Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, I'm Maria. I am from Santa Rosa, California. I have five years of experience. I also have hospice training and I am CNA certified. What inspired me to be a caregiver was taking care of my grandmother. We didn't have no one to take care of her, and I decided to take that job. I also decided this was going to be my career to be a caregiver, and I love taking care of elderly people.
What are your strengths as a caregiver?
What makes me a good caregiver is that I have patience, I love taking care of the elderly, I love listening to their stories, I also enjoy being around them and giving them the love that they need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget, her name was Evelyn. I had a long-term job with her. I was there when she started with her dementia till her last day. She was a lovely lady. I loved being around her. Funny, loved sharing her stories, and I love listening to her stories too.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
One of my proudest moments being as a caregiver, I had this client that was really difficult with every other caregiver, and I was the only one that knew how to calm him down and how to-- letting him know that life would still continue. And I helped him take showers - he did not want to do that with any other caregiver - he did not want to take any medications, but he did let me do it for him all the time.
