Hi, my name is Maria and I live in Watsonville, CA. I have 15 years of experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver approximately 20 years ago when my mom was sick with cancer. I had to take care of her.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to make sure that she or he likes what they're going to do. That way he/she will not take it like a job. Be more like a friend or to make the job not too difficult because it's a difficult job.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I never forgot will be Grace. She was the most amazing woman. She was really a strong woman with Alzheimer's. With a really, really strong will, and it was really funny and pleasant to work with her, considering she had Alzheimer's. And I will never forget her because she was so strong but sometimes I was confused about her. It was hard to believe she had Alzheimer's because she was so strong. She still is. She's a great, great woman. That's one of my clients that I will never forget.
