Hi, my name is Marica. I live in Sacramento, CA and I've been working as a caregiver for 16 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I used to take care of my grandparents. Also when I first came to the United States, this is my first job - doing caregiving and taking care of the elderly. So I love my job and I've been doing it now for 16 years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient with your client, be trustworthy, be honest, be dependable, and take care of the clients just like you take care of your elderly grandparents or your elderly parents.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Betty. I took care of her for four years. Betty's such a wonderful lady. She's like a mother to me. I remember when we went to her broker, she introduced me to her broker who took care of her financials. Then she asked my broker to open an account for me over there so I that I can start putting in my retirement money which I will never forget. I'm still doing it and continues to do so even now that she's passed away. That's one of my unforgettable memory about her.
