Hi, my name is Marie. I live in North Highlands, CA and I have been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandmother, who I cared for a year before she went to the nursing home and I also worked as a CNA at a hospital for a year and I took care of my Alzheimers grandmother for another year.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to always be passionate in their job duty and to care for the patient with love. Always make them feel comfortable in what they're doing and to always be mindful that they are caring for someone else's family member and treat them as if they were their family member or a loved one.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, is a lady I took care of in the hospital. I worked on med-surg and she would come to the hospital periodically because she would have chest pain and she died. But I took care of her and her family members would be there. They would always tell me, "You're doing such a great job with my mom. I want you every time she comes up here, if possible." and I would bathe her, feed her, assist her with going to the restroom, anything that she needed, we would do, that was under my duties as a CNA. But I will never forget just combing her hair, making sure she was safe and in the bed turned right and just making sure everything was like it was supposed to be, for her comfort in the hospital.
